Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
