Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important official stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
